An “unruly” Spirit Airlines passenger forced a flight to divert Wednesday after he attempted to do the impossible, namely to open an emergency exit door while in flight.

Spirit Flight 185 was en route from Cleveland to Los Angeles when the incident occurred, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

A spokesman for the FAA said the plane landed without incident.  The passenger in question was taken into custody upon arrival in Denver, the airline said in a statement.

The passenger could not have succeeded in opening the door while the aircraft was flying, thanks to the laws of physic.

“It is important to note that opening a door inflight is impossible due to air pressure inside the cabin pinning the door against its frame with force stronger than any person could ever overcome,” Spirit said in a statement later on Wednesday.
