United Airlines announced the appointment of Laysha Ward to the company’s board of directors.

Ms. Ward is executive vice president at Target, the eighth-largest retailer in the United States. She joined the company in 2008 and was promoted to executive vice president in 2015.  She is also the company’s chief engagement officer.

Expounding on the selection of Ms. Ward, United’s executive chairman, Oscar Munoz, explained that “we were focused on finding a leader with both strong business acumen and a unique perspective that will help United capitalize on our strengths as we emerge from the COVID-19 crisis.”

In addition to having attended Indiana University Bloomington from 1986 through 1991, which granted her a bachelor’s degree, Ms. Ward received a master’s degree from the University of Chicago in 2003.
