Meliá Hotels International announced it will offer free, on-site Covid-19 antigen testing at all ten of its hotels in Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

The testing program will be available to guests who require documented proof of a negative test prior to returning to their country of residence.

Guests must stay a minimum of three nights in order to be eligible for the free coronavirus testing. They will be required to take the test 72 hours before their scheduled departure from the hotels, and all tests should be scheduled at the time of check-in.  Test results are generally available on the same day as the test.

In cases where the guest’s home country requires a PCR test, the hotel will arrange one at a local testing site..

“Guest health and safety remains our top priority and we want to ensure we make this an easy and seamless process for our guests,” said Andre Gerondeau, the chain’s chief operating officer.

Meliá is also including a free travel insurance policy with all reservations. The policy covers unexpected health events, including testing positive for Covid-19. It includes a complimentary extension of the guest’s hotel stay for up to fifteen days, general medical expenses of up to €40,000 ($54,946), dental expenses of up to €300, onsite doctor visits, and emergency transfers to hospitals. The policy will also cover assistance for travel companions in regards to displacement and living expenses, as well as assistance to return home.
