Canada Names New Transport Minister
Omar Alghabra was named Canada’s new transport minister by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, replacing Marc Garneau.
Alghabra served as parliamentary secretary to the prime minister for public service renewal, deputy prime minister, and minister of intergovernmental affairs prior to receiving this new title. He had held the position since 2019.
The appointment of Alghabra follows an announcement from Trudeau that he was making changes to his cabinet after Navdeep Bains, Canada’s minister of innovations, resigned.
The former transport minister, Marc Garneau, had held the position since 2015. He now serves as the country’s minister of foreign affairs.
