Best Western Hotel in London to Accept Recovering Coronavirus Patients
Best Western hotels in the United Kingdom could soon be packed full of patients instead of guests if a pilot program at one such hotel in Croydon, a suburb of London, takes off.
The Best Western in Croydon has been transformed into a “cottage hospital” and anyone arriving is greeted with a sign that says “[C]oughs and sneezes spread disease.” The hotel is part of the London Hotel Group, and is now a ward for recovering coronavirus patients and the group is in discussions with the National Health Service to expand the program.
Instead of a front desk clerk at reception, there is a box of face masks and hand sanitizer available.
The 117-key property is accepting recovering coronavirus patients to relieve the strain that the nation’s hospitals are currently under. Rooms at the Croydon Best Western will be prioritized for the homeless and vulnerable who are well enough to be discharged but have nowhere else to isolate, health officials there said.
