Alaska Air Group announced the appointment of Daniel Elwell to the company’s board of directors. He will also be a member of the boards of its subsidiaries, Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air Industries.

Mr. Elwell, a former military pilot, was also a commercial pilot at American Airlines for 16 years and served as managing director of international and government affairs for the company during this time. Prior to his appointment to the Alaska Air Group board of directors, he served as deputy and acting administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration. He held this position since 2017.

“We are thrilled to have someone with Dan’s expertise and background in the airline and aviation industry join our board,” said Brad Tilden, Alaska Air Group chair and chief executive officer.

Alaska Air Group’s board has a total of 14 members. The appointment of Mr. Elwell will increase the number of independent directors from 11 to 12. He will have a seat on the board’s innovation and audit committees.

The appointment is with immediate effect.
