Members of the House of Representatives and the Senate reached a deal on a $900 Covid stimulus package that includes a new round of stimulus checks, an extension of unemployment benefits, and help for struggling businesses.

The news was announced by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell late Sunday night.

“We can finally report what our nation has needed to hear for a very long time: More help is on the way,” said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on the Senate floor.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer told reporters that both houses of Congress could vote on it late Sunday night to pass the legislation.  The bill will still require the signature of President Trump.

The action comes after lawmakers in both houses spent months trying to negotiate economic relief legislation.

The bill would extend unemployment benefits of up to $300 per week, provide stimulus checks of $600 per person, and offer forgivable loans to businesses that are struggling as a result of the pandemic.
