New York’s brand-new LaGuardia Airport is now offering free coronavirus tests and the testing isn’t limited to passengers or airport and airline employees.

The test center, which opened on October 28, is located on the first floor of the parking garage for Terminal B, also known as the Central Terminal, and is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.  In addition to the free test, those getting tested receive complimentary parking as well.

Nearby John F. Kennedy International Airport will soon see the opening of a similar test center, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates both airports, said, as part of a push by Governor Andrew Cuomo to expand free testing.

The Port Authority is working with the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation and the New York Tracing Corps to conduct the tests and is using a PCR or polymerase chain reaction test that involves the use of a nasal swab to gather sample material. While the tests are free, those who have health insurance will be asked to provide policy information.

Test results will be available within 48 hours by phone.
