As crossovers continue to gain in popularity, automakers are naturally adding additional models to their lineups.  Some models are merely OK, while others stand out in their class.  The all-new 2021 Kia Seltos is representative of the latter.

The Seltos is Kia’s sixth SUV in the United States and fits in the lineup between the Soul and the Sportage. However, the family member it resembles most in Kia’s lineup is the much larger Telluride, with which it shares multiple design cues.

The Seltos was designed from the ground up to be somewhat of an off-roader, starting with ground clearance of 7.3” (185 mm), plus the Dynamax all-wheel drive system with a locking center differential (available on some trim levels) that can provide added low-traction split evenly between front and rear when required based on road conditions.

You’re probably wondering what Seltos means, and we did too. Kia says the name was inspired by Celtos, the son of Hercules, and the “S” is there to signify speed and sportiness.

A Snow Pearl White Seltos SX arrived at our offices on a crisp spring morning, the first vehicle of the 2021 model year we were to test drive. Since it was the first Seltos any of us had seen, it was the object of great curiosity and scrutiny and the initial verdict was positive.

The Seltos comes in a variety of trim levels and the SX is the top of the line.   The Seltos SX includes Solar Control Glass, which reduces heat build-up in the vehicle’s interior, LED headlights and fog lights, a 10.25” touchscreen center display with navigation, and a great sounding Bose audio system with mood lighting.
