Officials at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued new guidance for individuals who are recovering from Covid-19.  In general, patients would be judged to have recovered if ten days have passed since they first felt ill provided they no longer have any symptoms. In addition, those who test positive for the virus but remain asymptomatic may exit self-isolation ten days after their first positive test.

The State of California now has more Covid-19 cases than New York, once the epicenter of the outbreak.  As of Wednesday night, there were at least 421,000  cases in the Golden State while New York, which had the most cases until Wednesday, has reported 413,000. Officials there announced more than 11,300 new cases Wednesday evening, a single-day record.

As the number of Covid-19 cases in the United States continued to increase dramatically, the governors of three states – Indiana, Minnesota, and Ohio –issued orders requiring residents of their states to wear masks.  New York’s governor, Andrew Cuomo, called on the Trump administration to implement a federal mask mandate.

Mexico, which has seen a total of 356,255 cases since the start of the pandemic, surpassed 40,000 deaths on Wednesday.

Hong Kong, once a model for controlling the coronavirus, is now experiencing a new surge of cases. Despite a robust tracing system, officials are having difficulty determining the origin of many of the new cases.

The president of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte, said that police would arrest those individuals who do not wear masks in public.

In Paris, Tati, the discount department store, is closing its doors.  The pandemic, its owners say, dealt the store a final blow after a long decline in sales.  The Tati store was more visited than the Eiffel Tower.

Finally, officials for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced that fans will be allowed to attend the 2020 Indianapolis 500, albeit at 25% capacity.  All attendees will be required to wear face masks.
