Air Canada said late Friday that it will make face-coverings mandatory for both passengers and crewmembers starting April 20, 2020.

Covering one’s face will be a requirement at multiple points in Canadian airports as well as during the boarding process and flight under conditions where social distancing is not possible.

The move follows a directive promulgated by Canada’s minister of transport, Marc Garneau, that requires travelers to wear face masks or other face coverings at various stages of their air travel journey where social distancing is not practical, including at check-in, when queuing to board the aircraft, and upon entering the aircraft.

For those travelers who do not have a mask upon arriving at the airport, the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority will provide them.
