Spring will start late Thursday at 11:50 p.m. EDT but the weather in some parts of the country will be anything but spring like, the National Weather Service said.

“A significant storm system will bring a plethora of weather impacts to the central United States into Friday,” the agency said.

Heavy snow and gusty winds will cause hazardous travel and driving conditions from the Rockies to portions of the northern Plains. Meanwhile, Heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms impact the area from the southern Plains to the Mississippi Valley and Midwest.

The agency said to expect damaging winds, tornados, and hail in some locales.

Temperatures in the East will be well above average and those in the central part of the country will be significantly below average.
