T-Mobile USA and Sprint announced that the two mobile operators are working together to implement fraud-prevention technology between their networks that will prevent mobile subscribers from receiving calls from spoofed numbers as well as from robocallers.

Calls placed on the T-Mobile network to a Sprint subscriber and vice versa will be verified to ensure the number is not spoofed.

“We’re in an arms race with these scammers, and we’ve got to join forces as an industry to keep all wireless customers protected,” said T-Mobile CEO John Legere.

In November 2018, T-Mobile became the first mobile operator in the United States to announce readiness to implement an industry standard that will block robocallers and spoofed calling numbers called STIR (Secure Telephony Identity Revisited) and SHAKEN (Secure Handling of Asserted information using toKENs).

“When the other guys join us in adopting STIR/SHAKEN standards, every consumer will be even better protected,” said Legere at the time.
