Storm Targets 12 Million in the Southeast, Hundreds of Flights Cancelled

Hundreds of flights were cancelled in the period from Thursday night to Friday and many more were delayed.  Road conditions were hazardous with black ice reported in many areas.  Dozens of school districts cancelled classes in the region.

Over 12 million people were under a winter weather alert from Thursday night into Friday including the Charlotte and Raleigh metropolitan areas.

The National Weather Service said that snow and sleet would end by noon in the Carolinas.  Meanwhile, the deep freeze across the eastern two-thirds of the country is expected to moderate with higher temperatures on Saturday.

The Southwest will get hit with heavy rain and snow at higher elevations.Snow is expected to develop from the Sierra Nevada and the Great Basin to the Wasatch on Saturday. The snow will reach the Colorado Rockies by Saturday night and continue into Sunday.
