Coronavirus Update: Americans Warned Against Travel to Korea, Members of Korean Sect linked to Wuhan

TUESDAY’S FACTS AND FIGURES

Chinese health officials reported 508 new cases, with only eight outside of Hubei province. The death toll on Monday was 71.

The total number of cases in mainland China since the December outbreak began is now 77,658, and the death toll has risen to 2,663.

Two-thirds of China’s small businesses remain shut due to the outbreak.

The number of people in the United States with Covid-19 reached 53, up from 34 on Friday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. All of the new cases were people who were evacuated by the State Department from Asia.

The total number of cases worldwide is now 80,098, and the death toll stands at 2,700.

02-25 Members of the secretive Korean church that is the center of the outbreak of Covid-19 in South Korea held meetings and continued to meet in Wuhan even after rumors of the virus began to spread.  About half the cases of the virus in South Korea have been linked to members of the religious group.

02-25 South Korean health officials reported 60 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in the country, bringing the total number of infections there to 893. The death toll in the country now stands at eight and South Korea is now the biggest virus cluster outside of China.

02-25 The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and raised the travel advisory for South Korea to Level 3. Travelers should avoid all non-essential travel to the country due to “limited access to adequate medical care in affected areas.”

02-25 Multiple Chinese cities introduced restrictions on visitors from South Korea, due to the number of new Covid-19 cases it reported.

02-24 In Italy, over 200 people have been infected by the virus and seven have died.  The World Health Organization is sending a team of experts to the regions impacted by the virus in northern Italy to support Italian health officials.

02-24 Many Iranians are suspicious of the government figures being released about the number of Covid-19 victims.  The death toll is already 12 but the government there has only acknowledged 60 patients.
