A Boeing 737-800 carrying 176 passengers and crew crashed shortly after takeoff in Tehran, Iran, state TV reported.

Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 was bound from Tehran to Kiev early Wednesday morning when it crashed.

There was no immediate word on casualties.

The Iranian Students New Agency reported that the aircraft encountered technical difficulties, while weekly newspaper Al-Hadath reported that anti-aircraft missiles in the capital shot down the plane.

The crash came hours after Iran launched a ballistic missile attack that targeted two bases in Iraq that house U.S. forces.  The attack was in retaliation for the killing of Revolutionary Guard General Qassem Soleimani.
