Ride-hailing service Uber said it is testing a new pickup process at New York City’s LaGuardia Airport.  The airport is the city’s third busiest but the closest to the city center.

The new procedure is in effect for Uber Black rides from Terminal B, the airport’s Central Terminal, and UberX rides from Terminals C and D.

Passengers will receive a six-digit PIN after calling for a car via the app.  They will still need to go to the Uber pickup zone and will, after waiting on line, give the driver the six-digit PIN to the first available driver.

LaGuardia Airport is currently undergoing a rebirth, with an $8 billion project that includes the construction of completely new terminals to replace ones that in some cases date back to the 1930s.

In December 2018, officials opened the Eastern Concourse in the new Central Terminal Building at LaGuardia Airport. The concourse is used by Air Canada, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines.  Delta Air Lines opened the first of four concourses in its new terminal at LaGuardia Airport in New York City last October.
