InterContinental Hotels Group announced plans for a new voco hotel in South Africa.

The voco The Bank, Rosebank in South Africa, will open later in 2020 in partnership with Valor Hospitality Partners Africa.

The 131-key property will be directly connected to the Rosebank Mall, which is located in a suburb of Johannesburg.  Amenities of the property will include a two-level restaurant and three meeting rooms that can accommodate a total of 80 people.

The hotelier first announced the voco brand in 2018. It launched with the three hotels in the United Kingdom as part of its deal with Foncière des Régions to rebrand and manage 13 hotels, as well as with the opening of the voco Gold Coast in Australia.

At a Voco property, “guests will be able to enjoy the appeal of a more individual hotel, alongside the reassurance of a name above the door that they trust,” said Keith Barr, the company’s CEO, in 2018. The Voco name, the company explained, is derived from the Latin words for “come together” and “to invite.”

The hotelier said that the defining characteristics of a Voco property will be to be “reliably different, brought to life through a bold, distinctive identity, informal service style and thoughtful touches along the guest journey.”
