Frankfurt Airport Records Record Passenger Traffic for 2019
Fraport AG, the operator of Frankfurt Airport, announced traffic figures for for the year 2019.
Passenger traffic for calendar year 2019 was a record 70.5 million passengers, also a 1.5% year-over-year increase. Passenger traffic for the final two months of the year declined for the first time since 2016.
Stefan Schulte, the airport’s executive board chairman, attributed the year-end drop to “the reduction of airline flight services for the current winter schedule,” noting that the aviation industry is “entering a consolidation phase.”
The number of aircraft movements for the year increased by 0.4% year-over-year to 513,912 takeoffs and landings.
The airport reported a slight decline in cargo tonnage. For 2019, cargo tonnage was down 3.9% to 2.1 million metric tons, which it said reflected a slowdown in the global economy.
