American Airlines (Finally) Reaches Tentative Deals with Mechanics Unions

The unions representing mechanics at American Airlines said it had reached new tentative agreements on new contracts with the airline that would end a long-standing dispute between the two parties.

The TWU-IAM Association said it would take several weeks to communicate the details of the contracts to the union’s membership and submit for ratification.

“Our Maintenance & Related and Fleet Service team members are the very best in the business and work incredibly hard to care for our customers,” said airline CEO Doug Parker. “They deserve contracts that include meaningful improvements in pay, quality of life and job protections.”

The contracts, if ratified, call for a mix of salary increases, profit-sharing, and changes to benefits, as well as revised work rules.

American, the world’s largest airline, had alleged that union members were in an organized slowdown that kept aircraft out of service and led to thousands of flight delays. The two unions vehemently denied the charges.
