Traveling over the Christmas and Hanukah holiday period?  One thing is certain: you will have company.

Over 47.5 million passengers are expected to board planes operated by U.S. airlines during the 18-day holiday travel period, which runs from Friday, December 19, 2019, through Thursday, January 5, 2020, according to figures released Tuesday by airline industry trade group Airlines for America.

In addition, many millions more are expected to travel by train or hit the roads to visit family and friends.

U.S. airlines are expected to add 88,000 seats per day as well as new routes to handle the increase.

“We’ve seen steady gains in air travel demand, and this winter will be no exception,” said the group’s chief economist, John Heimlich.

The busiest travel days during the period will be December 20, 21, 26 and 27, while the lightest days will be December 24 and 25, as well as December 31, which is New Year’s Eve.
