Pastrami here is pastrami short ribs with a melt-in-your-mouth honey-cognac glaze and truffle Spätzle.  Tongue? Don’t confuse these thick, luscious slices with anything you’d find at even the best New York deli.  They are forklifted onto a slice of challah and accompanied by coleslaw, Dijon, and gribenes, and served on a plate that looks like it’s from your bubbe’s kitchen..

Gefilte fish?  I can hear the groans already but this isn’t leftovers from your bubbe’s Seder.  It’s delicate white fish with a slice of carrot, trout roe, pickled vegetables, fish gribenes, and beet-horseradish puree. Chopped liver is nothing like Aunt Sadie’s, a delicate pâté with gribenes, accompanied by onion jelly and an herb salad, with pieces of challah toast.  The challah served in the breadbasket melts in your mouth like butter – don’t overlook it.

I cannot resist the cigars on the menu, these cigars made with smoked arctic char, feta cheese, spinach tapenade, tahini, and matbucha.

Tongue, forklifted onto challah bread

After so much food, I almost wanted to skip dessert but we shared the delicate and flaky baklava, accompanied by Turkish coffee ice cream and mascarpone cream cheese.

It would be meshugene not to go to Mishiguene, in fact take your bubbe. She’ll kvell for sure.
