Hyatt Hotels announced plans to open a new hotel in Reykjavík, Iceland.

The Hyatt Centric Reykjavík will be the first Hyatt-branded hotel in the country.  The 169-property, which will open in 2022, will be located in the building that formerly housed the headquarters of the Ríkisútvarpið, the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service, which will undergo a top-to-bottom redevelopment to be converted into a hotel.

Hyatt said it had spent the past year carefully studying the Nordic market and it considers this property to be “an important milestone” for the company.

Located on the Laugavegur, Reykjavík’s main street, hotel amenities will include a pop-up rooftop bar as well as several restaurants.  The hotel will offer 2,100 square feet (200 meters) of meeting space.

Hyatt Centric hotels are unique to the cities they are situated in with respect to artwork, furniture, food, and beverages. Hyatt currently over 26 Hyatt Centric hotels in 11 countries.
