Fog has slowed down air traffic in and out of Chicago O’Hare International Airport on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

“Due to weather/fog, there is a Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving Chicago O’Hare International Airport,” the Federal Aviation Administration said on its website.

Earlier in the day, all flights had been grounded at both O’Hare and Midway International Airport.

As of 8:15 a.m. CST, 250 arrivals and 110 departures were delayed at O’Hare, while 26 arrivals and 18 departures were delayed at Midway.  O’Hare reported 23 cancellations while Midway said it had experienced 71.

The National Weather Service, as of 8:27 a.m. CST, had a dense fog advisory for the Chicagoland area. Earlier the service had a “freezing fog advisory” in effect for the region, creating low visibility both in the air and on the ground.
