United Airlines said it will offer members of its MileagePlus frequent-flyer program complimentary subscriptions to TimeShifter, an app that helps travelers combat jet lag,

The app, introduced in 2018, uses research in sleep and circadian neuroscience and was developed in partnership with an expert in circadian rhythms at Harvard Medical School, Steven Lockley.

“We want to do everything we can to help improve the experience of traveling across time zones,” said Luc Bondar, the airline’s vice president for loyalty.   “Whether it’s a business trip to Tel Aviv or a vacation to Tahiti, our customers should arrive feeling fresh and ready to hit the ground running.”

Frequent flyers with Premier 1K status will receive an unlimited plan while all other members will receive the standard plan. The standard plan will allow for two flight trips.

United offers multiple ultra-long haul routes including non-stop service linking Houston and Sydney and San Francisco and Singapore.  Next month, the airline will add non-stop service from the New York metropolitan area to Cape Town, South Africa.
