DSC_0656 (1)Norwegian hotel owner Petter Stordalen led last week the acquisition of the Ving Group – which operated Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia – by a group of investors.

The group will assume ownership of all of the airline’s assets as well take on the airline’s 1,000 employees.

The deal calls for Thomas Cook Airlines to be rebranded as SunClass Airlines, which will fly under a new airline operating certificate.

At a news conference announcing the deal, Stordalen said that the deal was “special.”  “This deal unites the heart and brain. I have the heart and the partners have the brain.”

Tickets issued to passengers by the Scandinavian Thomas Cook unit will be valid on SunClass, the airline said. The Trafik-, Bygge,- og Boligstyreisen, or Danish Transport, Construction, and Housing Authority, approved the new airline operating certificate last week and the first SunClass flight operated last Tuesday.
