IMG_4680 (1)T-Mobile US, which is in the midst of trying to gain approval for its planned merger with Sprint, announced Monday morning that CEO John Legere will leave the company next April.

The surprise announcement comes on the heels of rumors that Legere was a leading contender for the CEO slot of beleaguered WeWork, a rumor that he denied vehemently.

Legere is credited with reviving T-Mobile since his appointment as CEO in 2012.

The company simultaneously announced the appointment of Mike Sievert as CEO, effective April 30,2020, saying that the change is part of “a comprehensive, multiyear, leadership succession planning process.”
