IMG_8483 2Southwest Airlines announced the appointment of Whitney Eichinger to the position of managing director of culture and engagement, a new position at the company.

Ms. Eichinger is a former Southwest employee who spent 15 years in the communications department. In her new position, she will report to Linda Rutherford, the airline’s chief communications officer.

“The expanded Culture & Engagement function will work to ensure that we know our Employees well, and that we are providing relevant and engaging programs and events to serve our more than 60,000 strong workforce,” said Rutherford

The role of managing director of culture and engagement calls for Ms. Eichinger to take responsibility for what the airline termed its “iconic culture,” and she will also prepare roadmaps for Employee Experience and Employee Insights programs.

The title of managing director of culture and engagement is an expansion of the role of managing director of culture services, which had been filled by Cheryl Hughey, who is moving onto a new role at the company focusing on the airline’s upcoming 50th anniversary in 2021.
