Hotel Review: Hilton Bogota Corferias, Bogotá, Colombia

Bogotá, a booming capital city full of vim and vigor, which was built on a rolling plateau more than 8,000’ (2,438 m) above sea level in the Andes in central Colombia, seems to be constantly in motion, from the chaotic traffic to the outdoor markets crowded with Indians in wool ponchos to its striking new convention center, the Ágora Centro Internacional de Convenciones, where one event or another is always being set up or torn down while delegates go in and out.

The opening of the world-class convention center demanded a hotel of similar stature.

Enter the Hilton Bogota Corferias, a 410-key property that opened its doors to guests this past April. Located within the mixed-use Corferias complex, it was to be my temporary residence during my first trip to the Colombian capital.

I arrived at the hotel after a very pleasant non-stop flight on Avianca, Colombia’s flag carrier, and was warmly received by the bellmen, who guided me to the lift to the reception area a few floors above. That was my first clue that this Hilton was something different: the ground floor of the hotel had a bar as well as very comfortable chairs and large open slatted cubes that could seat three or four people, offering a modicum of privacy.  For most hotels, this would suffice as a lobby, but the Hilton Bogota Corferias’ expansive and airy lobby on a higher floor was in a class by itself.

Checking in at the reception desk was quick and efficient. I was offered a welcome drink and I was soon off to my room.
