Marriott International announced plans to open a W Hotels property in Toronto next year.

Previously the Toronto Marriott Bloor Yorkville Hotel, the property will undergo a 40 million Canadian dollar ($30.2 million) refurbishment to become the W Toronto.

The hotel will offer guests what it terms a modern biophilia and laboratory style experience including the promise of a place to view “spectacular sunsets.”  Biophilia refers to the hypothetical human tendency to interact or be closely associated with other forms of life in nature.

Guest amenities will include an indoor/outdoor lobby bar and lounge equipped with a DJ booth and recording studio, a roof top restaurant, a glass exterior elevator, as well as a cocktail and coffee bar. The hotel will have 4,800 square feet (446 square meters) of meeting and event space.

The W Toronto is expected to open in the summer of 2020.
