IMG_6688 (1)The elimination of multiple travel-related benefits that Citibank announced in June went into effect on Sunday, at the same time the bank announced support for converting Citi Double Cash rewards into Citi ThankYou points.

The country’s third largest bank no longer covers car rental insurance, trip cancellation insurance, worldwide accident insurance, trip delay protection, baggage delay protection, and medical evacuation assistance, along with several other non-travel benefits.

Other benefits the bank discontinued include 90-day return protection, roadside assistance, travel and emergency assistance services, and Citi Price Rewind, a price protection service.

The changes took place “due to sustained low usage,” the bank said, explaining that, by discontinuing these features, it can “continue providing key benefits our customers use and value most at no additional cost.”

The ability to convert Citi Double Cash rewards into Citi ThankYou rewards means that cardholders can pool rewards earned on the Citi Double Cash credit card with rewards earned on other cards including the Citi Premier Card and the Citi Prestige Card.
