Amtrak announced a significant upgrade of its smartphone app for both Apple iOS- and Android-powered devices.

Version 4.0 brings significant new functionality to the app and enables travelers to book trips on the app using Amtrak Guest Rewards points. It also allows users to save credit card information to an Amtrak Guest Rewards profile from the app.

“The improvements Amtrak made to the app will help improve our customers’ experience while providing easy access to important travel information and station amenities,” said Amtrak CEO Richard Anderson.

The new version also supports the viewing and editing of profile information including coupons and vouchers, and it allows travelers to purchase parking when booking travel.

Other new features include the ability to book Auto Train tickets directly from the app.  The Auto Train service that operates between Washington, D.C. and Orlando, Florida, allows passengers to travel with their vehicles on board the train.
