Union Suspends Tuesday’s Strike at London’s Heathrow Airport

The planned strike scheduled to take place Tuesday has been cancelled, the union representing over 4,000 workers including security officers, firefighters, and engineers at London’s Heathrow Airport announced.

“Tuesday’s #HeathrowStrike suspended as workers vote on improved pay offer,” the union said in a tweet.

The workers had planed to walk out on both Monday and Tuesday in a dispute over wages, but the union said that it has reached an improved salary offer with the airport that will be presented to the rank-and-file membership.

Fearing a strike both days, airlines had cancelled hundreds of flights, although many have been reinstated.  The airport is telling passengers to check with their airline to determine if their flight will operate.

“Your airline is best placed to update you on the status of your flight,” the airport said in a message on its website.

The suspension of this week’s industrial action does not necessarily affect the planned walkout scheduled for August 23 and 24.
