Marriott to Open Fairfield Inn in British Columbia
Developers broke ground on a new Fairfield by Marriott in British Columbia on Wednesday.
Located in Kitimat and set with a mountain backdrop, the 120-key property is part of an all-modular, mixed-use community development.
The hotel will offer a fitness center, lounge with food service, and a variety of meeting and event spaces.
Kitimat was a small fishing village until the 1950s, when the city was redeveloped by the Aluminum Company of Canada, or Alcan.
The first Fairfield Inn opened in 1987 in Atlanta, Georgia as a budget hotel but Marriott began to reposition the chain in 2010 as an upper midscale brand.
The new hotel is expected to open in early 2020.
