Iberia to Offer Madrid-Cairo Flights in 2020

DSC_0870 (1)Iberia announced plans to add non-stop service from Madrid to Cairo next year.

The Spanish flag carrier will operate the service on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. It is scheduled to start on March 2, 2020 pending government approval.

Iberia will use Airbus A319 aircraft with 34 seats in business and 107 in coach. Business-class seats are standard seats with greater seat pitch, 31” versus 28”, in a 3-3 configuration although the middle seat is blocked.

Cairo, the capital of Egypt, is one of the largest megacities in the world, with a reported population of nearly 10 million (20 million for the greater Cairo area), and suffers from high levels of air pollution and traffic as a result.  It is known for its many cultural sites including two opera houses and the Cairo Geniza, and accumulation of almost 200,000 Jewish manuscripts found in the genizaof the ca. 882 Ben Ezra synagogue located in what is now Old Cairo. The Giza pyramid complex and the ancient city of Memphis are located within its borders.
