DSC_0684-EDSeattle-Tacoma International Airport and Alaska Airlines opened the first section of the newly renovated North Satellite concourse on Thursday.

The airline unveiled eight new gates and a new lounge as part of the project. The airy concourse is filled with natural light and gate areas feature seats equipped with charging stations. New amenities also include a nursing room that accommodates multiple travelers.

“To me, this space is a reflection of how important Alaska Airlines’ customers are to them,” said Alaska frequent flyer Tim Murphy.

The new 15,800-square-foot (1,468-square-meter) Alaska Lounge is three times the size of one of its typical airport lounges and offers views of the tarmac, Olympic Mountains, and downtown Seattle. Starbucks-trained baristas will prepare coffee for travelers, and the beverage menu includes a craft beer from Fremont Brewing.

The North Satellite renovation project will be completed in 2021. At that point, it will have 20 gates and a significant increase in the number of restaurants and shops, airport officials said.
