Severe Weather from Texas to New England Causes Over 5,000 Delays and Cancellations

IMGP4615 (1)Severe weather with damaging hail, severe winds, and isolated tornados struck a wide swath of the country on Sunday, causing dangerous travel conditions and hundreds of flight delays.

Airports from Phoenix to Dallas to Chicago to New York City reported an unusually high number of delays throughout the day.

As of 7:30 p.m. EDT, airports in the United States had reported 4,944 flight delays and 540 cancellations.

American Airlines led the list with 1,132 delays including those of its subsidiaries Envoy Air, Piedmont Airlines, and PSA Airlines, and 252 cancellations, followed by Southwest Airlines with 490 and 166 respectively.

Airports that saw the greatest impact from the storms included Dallas/Fort Worth International, Newark International Liberty, Philadelphia International, LaGuardia, and Denver International.
