Hoshino Resorts announced it will open the Hoshinoya Guguan resort to guests on June 30.

Rooms at the 50-key property will feature a semi-open air bath with water flowing from the well-known hot spring. There are several types of suites including the Sen suite, which has a maisonette layout with three bedrooms and a large terrace, and the one-bedroom Shui suite, which also features a maisonette layout.

The resort’s restaurant will offer selections that include ingredients used in Taiwanese dishes with Japanese-style cooking techniques.

Guguan is a hot spring located at the foot of the Taiwan Central Mountain Range. During the period of Japanese rule, officials built a public bath there. The opening of Provincial Highway 8 in the mid-20th century opened the area to tourism and Guguan began to thrive.

The company recently announced it will open a new resort in Yomitan Village in Okinawa in the spring of 2020.

Hoshino currently operates three brands, Hoshinoya, Risonare, and Kai. The hotelier’s first property, Hoshinoya Karuizawa, located in the Japanese Alps, opened in 1914. The company’s hotels are known for eco-friendly policies, the use of organic local produce in its restaurants, and for being self-sufficient in energy usage.
