IMG_4904A disturbed passenger on a Delta flight from Raleigh to LaGuardia tried to open a door during the flight, causing the captain to declare an emergency.

The incident occurred shortly before landing. The aircraft did not divert and landed safely at LaGuardia, arriving at the gate at 1:40 p.m.

“We just had a mentally disturbed passenger trying to open the forward door,” the pilot told air traffic controllers.

The Embraer ERJ-175 was originally to be met by first responders upon landing, but the captain later told controllers that the situation was under control and that they would proceed to the gate. The captain did request that law enforcement personnel meet the flight at the gate, however.

Delta Flight 5935, operated by Republic Airways, departed Raleigh-Durham International Airport at 11:54 a.m. local time.
