IMG_7212 2InterContinental Hotels Group announced its new hotel brand, Atwell Suites.

The announcement of the new all-suites brand was made at IHG’s Americas Investors and Leadership Conference in Las Vegas. Atwell Suites will be the company’s 17th brand.

With Atwell, the hotelier is targeting the upper mid-scale hotel market, saying it wants to “rightsize the amenities” guests need in a new category that would fall between what an extended-stay brand offers and what a select-service brand would have.

“We see an $18-billion opportunity with a segment of guests who really are not being served well in the industry today,” said Heather Balsley, the hotel chain’s senior vice president of global marketing to reporters on a conference call.

Atwell Suites properties will offer studio suites that have distinct areas for living and sleep, a fully-outfitted kitchenette area, and a work area. Hotels will have flexible meeting spaces including outdoor space. In addition, all guest rooms will have IHG Studio, a system that allows direct casting of content from smartphones and tablets to a 55” flatscreen television.

The hotels will offer a complimentary hot breakfast and will have a lobby bar that offers drinks and small plates. Other features of the hotel will be self-service check-in via dedicated tablets and the hotel chain’s IHG Connect Wi-Fi service.

The first Atwell Suites hotel, IHG said, will open its doors to guests in 2021.
