IMG_8483 2Southwest Airlines said Thursday it had reached a tentative agreement with the union representing the airline’s mechanics.

The move follows the announcement of an agreement in principle last month. A tentative agreement reached in 2018 was rejected by a majority of members, bringing both sides back to the negotiating table.

“We are proud to announce we have reached a deal we believe is worthy of our members’ support,” the union said in an announcement to its members.

Over 2,400 mechanics and employees in related workgroups are represented by the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association, which first requested mediation in 2015.

“This agreement gives them well-earned compensation increases and gives the Company additional flexibilities,” said Russell McCrady, the airline’s vice president of labor relations.

The five-year agreement includes updates to work rules, higher pay, improved benefits, and a ratification bonus.

The contract will be sent to employees for a ratification vote, although the date for the vote has not yet been set.
