Marriott Opens Milestone 7,000th Property, the St. Regis Hong Kong

IMG_3922Marriott International announced the opening of its 7,000th property, the St. Regis Hong Kong.

The hotelier’s first property, the Twin Bridges Marriott, a motel in Arlington, Virginia, opened in 1957, and the first property opened by Sheraton, which was part of Starwood when it merged with Marriott, was purchased by Sheraton founders Ernest Henderson and Robert Moore purchased the Continental Hotel in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Meanwhile, Marriott began as a nine-stool root beer stand opened by John Willard Marriott in 1927 in Washington, D.C.

Marriott plans to open up an additional 1,700 hotels by the end of 2021, it said in a statement.

Marriott hotels currently employ over 730,000 people in 130 countries.

“As our footprint grows more global, workers in our hotels –from bartenders to housekeepers –will have ever-growing choices and opportunities as they grow their careers with Marriott International and its franchisees,” said David Rodriguez, the hotel chain’s head of human resources.
