The 2019 Outer Critics Circle award nominations were announced Tuesday at the storied Oak Room in New York City’s Algonquin Hotel.

The award nominees were announced by Julie Halston, star of the new Broadway show “Tootsie,” and Michael Urie, who recently starred in Harvey Fierstein’s revival of “Torch Song” on Broadway.

Leading the nominations were “Hadestown,” the new musical based on the myths of Orpheus and Eurydice and Hades and Persephone, with 12 that included Outstanding New Broadway Musical, Outstanding Book of a Musical, and Outstanding New Score; “Tootsie” with ten, including Outstanding New Broadway Play and Outstanding New Score; and the revival of “Oklahoma” with six, including Outstanding Revival of a Musical, and Outstanding Director of a Musical.

Winners will be announced on May 13, 2019 and the awards will be presented at a gala dinner at Sardi’s on May 23.

The Outer Critics Circle is an organization of writers covering New York theater for out-of-town newspapers, national publications, and other media beyond Broadway.
