IMG_7743Multiple news agencies are reporting a possible coup underway in Venezuela.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and opposition leader Juan Guaido both claim to be the country’s legitimate leader.

On Tuesday, Guaido said he was “beginning the final phase of Operation freedom” with a promise to bring an end to the Maduro government, as protestors took to the streets.

Guaido declared himself as the country’s interim president in January. He has been recognized as the legitimate head of state of Venezuela by dozens of countries including Brazil, Colombia, and the United States. Guaido also claims to have the support of “middle and lower ranks” of the military.

Meanwhile, a video shown on multiple news channels shows military vehicles plowing into opposition protesters in Caracas.
