This was followed by a delicate pear salad with Romaine lettuce and Gorgonzola cheese.

I’m unable to resist coq-au-vin when it’s on a menu and La Goulue’s version of this French classic, braised chicken with red wine, mushrooms, carrots, onions (which I omitted), and bacon was one of the best I’ve had. My dining companion’s verdict about the braised short ribs was similar.

For dessert, the dark chocolate soufflé was the only choice and served as a delicious ending to a memorable evening

BOTTOM LINE

Despite the hiatus, La Goulue continues to be an elegant French brasserie where deciding what to order is the greatest challenge.
