DSC_0242Hainan Airlines inaugurated its new route linking Haikou, the capital of the Hainan Province in southern China, and Osaka, Japan.

Hainan will use Boeing 737-800 aircraft to operate the thrice-weekly flight.

China plans to increase tourism in the region, the government has said, and hopes to turn it into a global destination by 2035. The province expects to welcome two million visitors next year and predicts an increase of 25% per annum in the coming few years according to a plan released by the government last June.

Osaka, which will host Expo 2025, is Japan’s second largest city and a major port. The city is known for its modern architecture, nightlife, and its street food, as well as the 16th-century shogunate Osaka Castle
