A record number of entrants appear to qualify for a B.A. in English based on the results of our Avenue Q Trivia Quiz, which included nine multiple-choice questions and an essay question.

The winner, Daniel Smith from New York, was announced by Frequent Business Traveler at the evening performance of “Avenue Q” on March 21, World Puppetry Day, at New World Stages.  He is a senior at Wagner College and an intern at GMHC. He plans to attend law school in the fall and enter public service.  He enjoys theater and has directed productions of multiple shows including “Our Town,” “Assassins,” “Cabaret,” “Pygmalion,” and “It’s Pinocchio!”

Daniel scored a qualifying 78% on the quiz and our panel of distinguished judges felt his response to the essay question “Why do you ruv ‘Avenue Q’ so much?” best captured the essence of the show.

“I was in the 7th grade when I tricked my parents into taking my sister and myself to “Avenue Q” because it was just a dirty puppet show,” wrote Smith. “Though there was some puppet fornicating and crazy shit happening on that stage, my parents had a blast! Now, I want to take my boyfriend from Virginia who had been dying to see the show to ‘Avenue Q.’ We’re just a couple of 20-something-year-olds like Princeton looking for our purpose AND an awesome night at Avenue Q!”

Other contenders included “Because puppets get to say things regular people couldn’t!” and “Because I grew up on Sesame Street, and because I wish I could go back to college.”

A record 13% of you earned an A, having answered every multiple-choice question correctly. This was a three-fold increase over our last quiz.

Approximately 47% of you scored an A- or 8 out of 9 correct, a record number over past quizzes.

In addition, 22% percent achieved a B+, with 7 out of 9 answered correctly, while 13% earned a B with 6 out of 9. The remaining 5% placed well below the curve and your guidance counselors will be in touch.

The hardest question was “According to Avenue Q, what is everyone?” The correct answer, “All of the above,” include “A little bit racist,” “Too PC,” and “Uncouth.” The easiest question was “According to Trekkie Monster, what is the Internet for?” (correct answer, “Porn”).

Daniel and his boyfriend Mike Dolzer attended “Avenue Q” on World Puppetry Day, March 21, and got to meet human and puppet cast members at the afterparty. Before attending the show, the couple was treated to a pre-theater prix-fixe dinner at Sushi Seki on West 46 Street.
