Marriott International announced the opening of the W Dubai – The Palm.

The new hotel is located on the Palm Jumeirah, which is the largest man-made island in the world.

The hotel’s design is intended to be reminiscent of sand dunes as well as the city’s skyscrapers. The five-story atrium which welcomes guests is intended to evoke desert fortresses and citadels that dotted the region centuries ago. The atrium is home to a 98’ (30 m) sculpture, known as the Soundwave, made from 640 pieces of glass and intended to represent a W sound wave.

The W Dubai’s 350 guest rooms and suites offer uninterrupted views and feature curved tiled walls evoking the sea.

Dining options include Torno Subito, the first Massimo Bottura restaurant located outside Italy, which will offer avant garde Italian cuisine; Akira Back, an eponymously-named Japanese restaurant; SoBe, short for South Beach, a rooftop bar that offers guests 360° views of the city from the Arabian Sea to the Dubai skyline; and Liv, a restaurant designed using only recycled materials that offers lighter fare for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The hotel has 21,500 square feet (2,000 square meters) of meeting and event space including the 13,000-square-foot (1,215-square-meter) oval-shaped Great Room.
