IMG_3681Milwaukee’s General Mitchell International Airport has been renamed to Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, dropping the “General” from its moniker, and adding the name of the city.

Speaking to reporters, airport spokesperson Harold Mester called the move a “rebranding,” stating that most airports in major cities in the country have the name of the city in their title.

The lack of the word “Milwaukee” in the airport’s name has been reportedly confusing for many out-of-state travelers.

While the move will help instill clarity to the airport’s name, some feel as though it is disrespectful to General Billy Mitchell, the man the airport was named after, who helped to establish the United States Air Force. However, the museum dedicated to Mitchell, located within the airport, will remain intact.
