Chicago O’Hare Overtakes Atlanta as World’s Busiest Airport by Number of Flights
Chicago O’Hare International Airport is the world’s busiest airport by number of flights, besting Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which retains the title of world’s busiest airport by passenger traffic, however.
O’Hare last held that title in 2014.
The busy Chicago airport reported 903,747 flights last year, while Atlanta had only 895,502.
“Chicago is proud to be the home of the best connected airport in the U.S., and now the busiest airport for total flights, as well,” said Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel in a statement.
Commenting on O’Hare’s ascent, Hartsfield-Jackson said “That’s peachy” in a tweet.
O’Hare is a major hub for both American Airlines and United Airlines.
